Do you have a showroom?
We do have a showroom.
DETAILS Gallery is located in the heart of Honolulu's Arts District, between downtown and Chinatown. (M-F 11-5:30, Sat 11-3, Sun closed)

Our rugs are also available to the public through several stores, art galleries and special events, throughout Hawaii. Click here for more information. For your convenience, you can also purchase our rugs through our online store.

Where are your rugs made?
The rugs are designed by us at our office in Honolulu, Hawaii and they are woven at our facility in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Where is Nepal?
Nepal is a small country that lies between Tibet and India, and is where Mt. Everest is located. Nepal has its own unique language and culture.

What materials are used in your rugs?
The rugs are made from the finest wool over a cotton foundation. We also use silk in some designs and are experimenting with other materials as our collection expands. Click here for more information.

How long does it take to make one of these rugs?
A 6’ x 9’ rug can take one weaver three months to weave, but normally there are several weavers working on one large rug, therefore, reducing the total weaving time.

Are your rugs machine-made?
No, all our rugs are hand-knotted (handmade) on looms by master weavers using Tibetan-style weaving techniques. Click here for more information.

How can you tell a machine-made rug from a hand-knotted rug?
You can tell the difference by looking at the back of the rug. If the back is covered with cloth or a rubber non-skid surface, it is a machine-made rug. Also, if the back surface is very rough, it is probably a machine-made rug since glue has to be placed on the back to hold the pile in place. The problem with machine made rugs is that after several years the glues or backings begin to break down and the pile starts to fall out. Turn over a hand-knotted rug and you can see the design as clearly on the back as on the front. You can actually see the rows of knots. Also, if you separate the rows on the front of the rug, you will be able to see the knots at the base of the pile along the weft. For more information on machine-made versus hand-knotted rugs, download the PDF.

What determines a rug's price?
The price reflects the quality of our rugs. All our rugs are made of high-quality materials, and then hand-knotted in different knot densities. The rugs are priced according to the knot density and square footage. Once you get to know rugs, you will find that our prices are very reasonable for hand-knotted rugs. Click here for more information.

Why do rugs of the same size have different prices?
The rugs are woven in three different knot densities based on the design. The rugs are woven in 60, 80 or 100 knots per square inch. Higher knot counts are more labor intensive to make, therefore, more expensive. For more information on knot density, download the PDF.

Is child labor used in the manufacture of your rugs?
Absolutely not! This issue is of great concern to us. We have gone through great lengths to ensure that no child labor is used in the manufacturing of our rugs. We travel to our facilities often and have production managers on-site. The national law in Nepal states that rug weavers have to be at least 14 years old. Our manufacturer does not hire anyone under 16 years old.

How do I know what size rug to buy?
This is largely an issue of personal preference, however, the rug should be large enough to ground the furniture grouping in the room. For more guidance on placement and sizes of rugs, download the PDF.

How do you clean and maintain these rugs?
The best maintenance is to keep the rug vacuumed. Wipe up any spills immediately. Spot clean with water and a little baby shampoo, if needed. Do not pour the baby shampoo or liquid soap directly onto the rug, rather use a clean white towel to blot the stain. Never use standard rug shampoos on wool rugs because it strips the natural oils from the wool and will make your rug less resistant to soiling and staining. For more detailed information on rug care, download the PDF.

Can I place a special order?
Yes, we take special orders. A special order is either placing an order for a rug that is out of stock or making a color or simple design change to one of our rugs. There is no additional charge for placing a special order. A special order has to be paid in full when the order is placed. Once the order is placed it takes approximately 4-5 months for delivery.

Can I have a rug custom designed?
Yes, we do custom designs. Custom designs are achieved by working closely with our clients to create the perfect size, color scheme and design pattern. The cost for the rug is calculated by the square footage in the knot density required by the design, plus a design fee. The design fee is determined by the number of hours required to complete the final design approved by the client. Once the order is placed, it takes approximately 4-5 months for delivery.
